Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht was crafted 12 years ago under the creative helm of Marcel Wanders studio. During that time, Karin, the founder and creative director of byKK, led the interior design team at Marcel Wanders studio, playing a pivotal role in conceptualizing, designing, and executing the project.
Drawing inspiration from Delft blue, the Golden Age, navigation and adventure, as well as the city’s vibrant creative and knowledge economy, the design encapsulated the essence of Amsterdam. Conceived as more than just a hotel, it was envisioned as a conduit that seamlessly connects visitors to the soul of the city, offering a localized experience to international guests while serving as a showcase for the rich heritage and hospitality of Amsterdam’s residents.
Fast forward 12 years, and the Reception, Lobby, Bar, and Restaurant have undergone a transformative renovation, evolving into the innovative ‘Barstro’ concept.
Despite this evolution, the essence of Amsterdam and in particular the Prinsengracht canal, acting as a microcosm of Amsterdam’s communal life, remains central to the design philosophy, retaining the whimsical charm of the iconic hotel.
The renovation, designed by byKK, seeks to foster connections between people, celebrating the diversity and creativity that define Amsterdam. It is not merely a space but a celebration of the vibrant tapestry of cultures and ideas that converge in this dynamic city.
